Donald Trump said, "Success is being pleased with your efforts." He didn't say, "pleased with your results" he said, "pleased with your efforts." Here is a very successful man who is always playing the Big Game and seemingly driven by results. Yet, results clearly mean little to success, in Donald Trump's life game.
What do you think are the elements in Trump's Big Game?
Write down what you think they are. I believe they are :
- The game must be big and worthwhile
- The game must be meaningful
- The game must be tough and have a risk of failure (ie. the game is challenging)
- The game must be winnable (There's nothing worse than playing a game you cannot win!)
The Big Game is about making an effort and being pleased with the effort you make. The effort leads to achievement and the pleasure motivates you to keep on making the effort. It's a winning combination around which Frederick's "Big Game" life coaching revolves. Goals are good targets, but they do not motivate as well as we would like. It's playing a worthwhile and enjoyable game that draws us in, motivates us and gives us the victory. It's having fun on a daily basis that makes your Big Game worth playing and keeps you coming back to play again. Simply put, people who play big have more fun!
Big achievers have coaches
Winning athletes have coaches, and top business people have coaches. Why not you? Winning players in every field know that continuous coaching is essential for success. They and you play a bigger game with a coach on your side.
Consider the coach of your favorite sports team. The coach doesn't come in for a few weeks, fix a problem and leave he stays, works with the players for the entire season, and probably for many seasons. Your team's coach doesn't just solve individual problems he works with you to improve your game at all levels. It's not about improving one thing it's about constant and never-ending improvement. It's about playing a bigger game!
Find a coach or a mentor you trust and who listens. While compatibility is good, a coach with a different skillset than you will serve you best. As your coach, I want to add to your knowledge, not duplicate it! The experience I have gained from different industries gives us more coaching techniques on which to draw to apply to your big game.
Together, we will play a BIGGER GAME. Does that sound like having fun, or what?!
(OK, Frederick. I want you to mentor me, now!)
